Circular economy company Finncont targets international expansion with the support of Sponsor Capital
Finnish private equity company Sponsor Capital will become the majority owner of Finncont, a leader in circular economy. The aim of the transaction is to support Finncont’s future growth both in its current markets as well as internationally.
Finncont is a Finnish company providing environmentally sound products and solutions for waste management and safe transfer and storage of chemicals. In addition to their broad product offering, Finncont offers R&D and contract manufacturing services. The company was established in 1974, and today it operates globally with approximately 160 employees in Lahti and Virrat, Finland and Gothenburg, Sweden.
Finncont has a strong market position in Finland in all its product areas: environmental products, IBC containers for transfer and storage as well as fuel tanks. Finncont is also renowned as a Nordic leader in rotational molding, and it has been the trusted contract manufacturing partner of major blue-chip companies for decades.
In accordance with an agreement signed in October 2021, a fund managed by Sponsor Capital will become Finncont’s new majority owner. Finncont’s management team members will continue as significant shareholders in the company, and the current majority owners will continue as minority shareholders.
“Finncont is a leading player in its fields, and it has excellent future growth prospects supported by many beneficial market trends. We are very glad to have Sponsor Capital’s support for the execution of our ambitious growth plan and further development of our business”, says Jyri Partanen, CEO of Finncont.
“We, the current owners, are extremely proud of the competence of Finncont’s personnel and the development of the company driven by it. During recent years, the company has ambitiously and successfully developed its product and service offering, which has enabled it to outpace market growth. Sponsor will give Finncont tools for implementing the company’s growth plan and we are convinced Sponsor is the right partner for the company’s next development phase”, says Hans Johanson, Chairman of the Board of Finncont.
“We are very impressed with Finncont’s great journey and strong development. The company has many strengths, including competent management and personnel, excellent products and services, highly satisfied customers, solid competence in R&D and leading manufacturing capabilities. These strengths enable multiple interesting growth avenues domestically and internationally, and we very much look forward to joining Finncont in its future development journey”, says Jussi Seppälä from Sponsor Capital.
The transaction is subject to approval of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.
