Gorilla Capital Fund III has made its 62nd investment in Valigent — a company helping R&D organizations turn more technical ideas into strong inventions and valuable intellectual property.
Valuable intellectual property starts with the invention itself, but most IP processes begin too late. Companies rely on inventors to recognize what might be valuable, take the initiative to report it, and describe it well enough for an IP team to assess. In practice, that means strong ideas get missed, disclosure quality varies from one inventor to the next, and IP managers and patent counsel spend a lot of time reconstructing technical context that was never captured properly in the first place.
Valigent addresses this by helping R&D teams develop and describe an idea properly before it ever reaches formal IP review. The founders bring their own experience as inventors — together they’ve filed more than twenty patents across small and large companies — combined with over a decade of building applied AI systems, including inside intellectual property.
The result is that companies can improve the quality of ideas earlier, reduce costly rework further down the line, and free up IP managers and patent counsel to spend their time on judgment calls rather than reconstruction work.
“Valuable IP always starts with the invention itself. Patenting comes later. Having worked as inventors ourselves, we have seen how much the outcome depends on whether an inventor recognizes the opportunity and knows how to describe it. Valigent makes invention disclosure part of developing the invention, not just documenting it,” says Rickard Sjögren, CEO and Co-founder, Valigent.
“What stood out with Valigent is where the team is putting their own experience to work. Rickard, Alexander and Emma have filed more than twenty patents themselves and spent over a decade building applied AI systems, including inside intellectual property — so they’ve felt this problem from both sides, as inventors and as builders. That combination, and the discipline to build the product close to the R&D teams they used to be part of, is exactly the kind of step-by-step company building we look for at Gorilla,” says Petter Hattenbach, Partner at Gorilla Capital.
We are pleased to partner Partnerinvest Norr and Northern Light Capital in this round.
